Kerala University

University of Kerala, formerly the University of Travancore, is a state-run public university located in Thiruvananthapuram, the state capital of Kerala, India. It was established in 1937 by a promulgation of the Maharajah of Travancore, Chithira Thirunal Balarama Varma who was also the first Chancellor of the university. C. P. Ramaswamy Iyer, the then Diwan (Prime Minister) of the State was the first ViceChancellor. 

It was the first university in Kerala, and among the first in the country. Accredited by NAAC with highest grade of A++ and scored 3.67 points out of 4.The university has over 150 affiliated colleges and has sixteen faculties and 43 Departments of teaching and research. The Governor of Kerala serves as the Chancellor of university.

Kerala University NIRF Ranking 2022

National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF), launched in 2015 by the Ministry of HRD, is an authorized body that ranks Indian education Institutions. As per the recently released NIRF Ranking 2022, Kerala University has achieved the 40th rank in the university category and 52nd in the overall category with an overall score of 49.87 points on a 100-point scale.

The recent NIRF trends indicate a drop of 13 points in university ranking, as well as a 9 position drop in the Overall ranking category, as compared to the previous year's NIRF Data.

The courses of the Central University of Kerala are offered at the undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral levels. The streams in which this Central University of Kerala courses are offered are sciences, commerce , education, humanities & social sciences, arts , computer application & IT, management & business administration, medicines & allied sciences, hospitality and tourism and law. 

Central University of Kerala offers a total of 50 courses. Central University of Kerala courses fees varies according to the choice of the course. Central University of Kerala's courses duration varies from two to six years. Central University of Kerala admissions are only offered to students who have met the eligibility criteria and completed all the admission processes.

University Departments

University of Kerala has sixteen faculties and 43 Departments of teaching and research. Teaching, Research and Knowledge extension are the mandate of the Departments. Kerala University admission 2022 is ongoing for UG and PG courses. The university released the PG second allotment list on August 22, 2022 and UG third allotment list on August 24, 2022.  Kerala University admission 2022 for UG, PG, and B.Ed programs is open now. Admission to the UG courses (except for BTech, B.Arch, BPA, BFA, and BPEd courses) is based on merit in the qualifying examination. kerala University offers accepts KEAM scores for admission to the BTech, BPA, BFA, and BPEd courses. B.Arch admission will be done through the NATA entrance examination. 

Kerala University PG admission is based on entrance examinations. The university accepts GATE, CMAT/KMAT/KU CAT, KLEE for admission to courses such as M.Tech, MBA, and LLM. KU offers Undergraduate programs like BA, B.Sc, B.Com, BCA, BBA, BWS, BMS, B.Voc in the field of Arts, Commerce, Science & Management. For admission into Undergraduate program at KU, the basic eligibility criteria is 10+2 in the relevant subject group. The final selection will be done on the basis of the merit/rank prepared by the university. The duration of UG courses is 3 years. •        Candidates have to pass a 10+2 examination of the state or an examination accepted by the university for admission into BA, B.Sc & BSW courses.

•        Candidates have to pass a 10+2 examination with Mathematics as one of the optional subject of the state or an examination accepted by the university for admission into BCA.

4.Kerala University placements:

Kerala University placement details for the 2022 drive have not been released as of now. It will be updated on this page as and when released. Earlier, according to the NIRF report 2022, a total of 309 PG students were placed during Kerala University placements 2021. The median package offered to PG (1 year) and PG (2 years) students were INR 3.20 LPA and INR 3.48 LPA, respectively.

Kerala University provides financial assistance to needy students through Student's Aid Fund Scholarship.

•        This scholarship is offered to the students whose family income is INR 25,000 annually.

•        The candidates need to have the Income Certificate of the working parent granted by the village officer 

Student's Group Personal Accident Insurance Scheme (SGPAIS)

•        This scholarship scheme covers the medical expenses of the students in case of accidents up to INR 25,000 and a death claim up to INR 1,00,000.

•        The premium for the scholarship is INR 25 per student.

 

Kerala University Merit Scholarships

Kerala University awards scholarship to Undergraduate students who score 55% marks in HSE/ VHSE/ CBSE/ ISC Examination held immediately before the date of their admission to the College. The Scholarships are tenable for a period of three years and shall be awarded only to students who pass the HSE/ VHSE/ CBSE/ ISC examination at the first attempt securing not less than 55% marks.

•        The amount awarded as scholarship is INR 2,500 per annum to 188 students each.

•        The subject wise distribution of the scholarships shall be as follows:

The university also provides University Merit Scholarship to Postgraduate students who possess a First Class Bachelor’s Degree obtained at the University Examinations held immediately proceeding the award of the scholarship. In the absence of eligible candidates from the immediately preceding University Examination, candidates who had obtained a firstclass in a previous examination at the first appearance may also be considered.

•        The scholarship awarded amounts to INR 3000 per annum which is given to 169 students for the two years of duration.

Kerala University Facilities

Facilities

The university offers a wide range of facilities to its students. Kerala University facilities include a library catering to the information needs of the students and research requirements of the faculty, the university has a total of six hostels out of which four are for girls and two for boys, an auditorium is a venue for all the cultural events. Apart from these, Kerala University facilities also include a well-maintained cafeteria that serves healthy food items to students, staff and faculty. The university has an excellent and modern IT infrastructure for the benefits of the students.

•        Boys Hostel

The University of Kerala offers hostel accommodation to both boys and girls. In total, there are 6 hostels out of which two are for men (PG students). Also, the university provides an International Youth Hostel to cater to the temporary residential needs of the students and faculty.

•        Girls Hostel

In total, the university has six hostels for boys and girls out of which four are for girls. These six hostels are functioning under the University of Kerala at Kariavattom campus and at Thycaud, Thiruvananthapuram.

Kerala University library has a large number of books in many genres. These include coursespecific books, fiction, nonfiction, books by international authors and many more.

•        Sports

The university has a playground and a sports stadium for outdoor sports. Students can play football, cricket, and hockey. Also, students interested in sports like gymnastics can avail the facilities in the department of physical education.

•        Cafeteria

Healthy and delicious meals are provided to the students and staff of the university by the canteen.

•        Auditorium

Various university events take place throughout the year and most of them are being organised in the university auditorium.

•        Medical/Hospital

Kerala University has a health centre that caters to the medical needs of students, staff and faculty members. Regular health checkups take place in the health centre.

•        IT Infrastructure

The university has a modern IT infrastructure for students. The university is fully wi-fi enabled. The university is networked in an effective manner taking care of the future developments in the field of technology.

•        Transport

Kerala University provides transport facilities to its students for safely reaching the campus. In total, the university has 8 buses registered as educational buses. The university also provides light-duty vehicles allocated to various departments for their study trips.

•        Guest Room

Family members who come to visit students at the campus need not worry about staying as Kerala University has a guest house for accommodation purposes. All the guest rooms are spacious and comfortable. Guesthouse facility is available for visiting faculty and students family members.

•        Banks Facilities

The university has bank branches that offer various facilities such as ATM facility, internet banking etc. This facility is available for students, staff and faculty members.
