Savitribai Phule Pune University
(SPPU), formerly the University of Poona, is a collegiate public state
university located in the city of Pune, India. It was established in 1949, and
is spread over a 411 acres (1.66 km2) campus in the neighbourhood of Ganeshkhind.The
university houses 46 academic departments. It has about 307 recognized research
institutes and 612 affiliated colleges offering graduate and under-graduate

Established on 10 February 1949, Savitribai Phule
University (SPPU), also known as the University of Pune, is a public state
university. Mukund Ramrao Jayakar became its first Vicechancellor. It offers
both undergraduate and postgraduate courses in Science, Management, Social
science, law, etc. There are 46 departments, and since 2019, it has introduced
a bachelor’s course in Environment science. Savitribai Phule University
affiliates several colleges namely Sir Parashurambhau College, Nowrosjee Wadia
College, Fergusson College, and many more.
